Ryan Kaiser is the Managing Partner of Kaiser IP, representing clients in a wide range of matters including trademark, trade secret, copyright, breach of contract, and false advertising litigation. He combines sharp business acumen with over a decade of experience in intellectual property and commercial litigation to achieve exceptional results for clients in the food, beverage and consumer products industries. His clients value his innovative strategies which both defend against legal challenges while at the same time advancing their overall business objectives. Ryan has also developed a strong focus in the area of food and beverage class action defense.

With the rise of GMOs, natural foods and nutritional supplements, companies in these industries are increasingly subject to claims of deceptive advertising centering on label and advertising content, or otherwise challenging stated health benefits.  As class actions in the food and beverage industry have increased, Ryan has leveraged his strong background in commercial disputes to develop a niche practice defending against food and beverage class actions in state and federal court.

Ryan also represents clients in disputes common to the pet products, food, beverage, supplement, and cosmetic industries involving deceptive or misleading labeling, adulteration and false advertising investigations brought by the FDA, FTC and state attorneys general, and deceptive trade practice and unfair competition claims brought under Section 43(a) of the federal Lanham Act.

Ryan began his career advising clients on trademark portfolio management, audits and strategy, as well as trademark and copyright procurement and licensing. He continues to counsel clients on the development and enforcement of U.S. and international intellectual property rights, and is actively involved in the prosecution and licensing of U.S. and international trademarks. Ryan also plans and implements effective trademark policing and enforcement strategies to ensure the security and value of his clients’ rights. Ryan has a proven track record of obtaining favorable outcomes in not only the courts but before various administrative agencies, such as the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), NAD, and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).  He also assists clients in negotiating, structuring and drafting of licensing and other agreements and commercial contracts.

Ryan is actively involved in the local Bar Associations, and most recently served as Vice Chair for the Food Law Committee of the Chicago Bar Association. An avid runner and home brewer, he and his wife also co-founded a not for profit organization to help provide emergency veterinary care and pet care for low income families.
